Stainless steel bellows are made from stainless steel strip. First, the strip is welded to a thin walled tube, then formed into a bellow. Bellows are normally unbraided and capable of absorbing axial, lateral, and angular movements while under low or higher pressures and temperatures.

Bellows in Stainless Steel Expansion Joints are normally unbraided components that can absorb axial, lateral and angular movements while under low or higher pressures and temperatures*.* Due to their construction techniques, they are relatively light compared to equivalent non-metallic bellow alternatives in the market.
Stainless steel bellows have very good corrosion characteristics. Stainless steel itself can withstand extreme variations in temperature and has excellent chemical resistance and high physical strength. On top of it, stainless steel bellows are diffusion tight.
Bellows made of 1.4541 or 1.4571 with connection parts made of stainless steel 02 1.4306, 1.4307 or unalloyed quality steels such as 1.0305 are also very suitable for welding. The material combination 1.4404/1.4404 is more difficult to weld due to heat fracture tendencies in case of non-ferric primary solidification.
